The collaboration between Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Command, and the 176 Guards Battalion of the Nigerian Army yielded positive results with the arrest of 42 suspected bandits and terrorists posing as miners of solid minerals.
Olusola Odumosu, the NSCDC FCT Commandant, while parading the suspects in Abuja, said they were intercepted at the forest of Tsaumi Village, bordering Lambata in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.
He said an investigation had revealed that the group of young men had been operating within Zamfara, Kogi, and Niger States.
“Preliminary investigation by the Corps has revealed that the suspects, contrary to their claim, are not miners, but rather bandits fleeing ongoing military onslaught in Zamfara State through the forest zone of Niger State into the FCT through Gwagwalada Area Council en route Pai Village of Kwali Area Council,” he said.
“In the course of interrogation, the suspects were unable to disclose the mining site and company name they were alleged to be working for, which suggests they have a sinister agenda,” Odumosu said.
