Inspector Micheal Odeh serving with the Rivers State Police Command has been dismissed from service over extortion of $3,000 from a victim.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, in a press statement on Wednesday, said Odeh after a thorough investigation was arrested alongside other two police officers and had been officially queried and recommended for dismissal.

The PPRO explained that the recommendation was forwarded to the Force Secretary (FORSEC) for necessary action.

She noted that Odey’s case had progressed with the conclusion of Orderly Room Proceedings and that the findings had been reviewed by AIG Alifa Omata, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 16, Yenagoa, who upheld the recommendation of Odey’s dismissal from the Force.

The statement said: “he has been relieved of his duty, effective 7th February 2024. It is important to note that all three officers remain in custody as investigations continue into two additional cases of similar nature. Updates on these investigations will be provided in due course.”

Koko said that the disciplinary process for Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo involved a review by the Inspector-General of Police and the Police Service Commission to ensure a fair and just resolution.

She called on residents to promptly report any misconduct by law enforcement agents, and that all reports would be treated with utmost seriousness, and appropriate actions would be taken to uphold fairness and justice.
