The Anambra State House of Assembly has reconfirmed the list of 21 local government transition chairmen, requested by the Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. The transition chairmen have now served for almost two years, except for a few places like Ihiala local government and Awka North local government, where changes were made.

During plenary on Tuesday, the transition chairmen were confirmed during the House of Assembly electoral college, along with members of  their transition council. The appointment of the transition council is renewable every three months.

Recently, there has been calls for the governor of Anambra State to conduct local government election, which was one of his major promises during electioneering campaign in which he promised to conduct local government election within 6 months of assumption to office, but it now almost two years.

The House of Assembly also introduced no fewer than four new bills which are now before it for consideration. The bills are; Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency Bill, 2024. Anambra State Anti-Touting Prohibition Bill, 2024. Anambra State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill, 2024, and finally, Anambra State Planning and Development Bill, 2024.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, in a motion, called on the governor to incentivize individuals who are taking up social responsibility across the state, so that they would do more. The motion was well received and supported by Hon. Augustine Ike, House member representing Nnewi North, Hon. Kingsley Udemezue, House member representing Idemili North, Hon. Golden Ilo, the House member representing Ihiala I, Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, House member representing Anaocha II, Hon. Anaya Okparaeke of Aguata I, and Hon. Judge Akpua of Njikoka II. The motion was unanimously passed, by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze.
