The Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has threatened to embark on a two-day nationwide protest at the expiration of the 14-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government.
Comrade Joe Ajaero, President of Nigeria Labour Congress while briefing Journalists in Abuja at the end of the National Executive Council meeting, said, if the government still failed to finalize the implementation, organized labor would have no option but to embark on nationwide protest on the 27th and 28th February 2024.
Comrade Ajaero urged the Federal Government not to flout the deadline of the 14-day ultimatum.
“The Unions had given the federal government 14 days to deal with issues relating to the well-being of Nigerian masses and workers.
“Nigeria is now grappling with a cost of living crisis, fueled by the highest inflation rate in nearly three decades. Millions of Nigerian workers are facing hunger, hardship, low purchasing power, and insecurity due to high inflation,” he said.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Dr Nkieruka Onyejeocha had expressed the commitment of the Federal Government to promote the welfare of Nigerian workers and maintain social dialogue with Organized Labour.
He assured Organised Labour that the federal government would fulfill the agreement reached with Organized Labour within the week.
