Governor of Borno State Babagana Zulum has initiated the distribution of food supplies to more than 100,000 vulnerable households in two local government areas, namely Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and Jere.

Governor Zulum, during the symbolic presentation at the Maiduguri Sports Centre, said each household would receive a 25kg bag of rice and a 25kg bag of maize, noting the aim is to alleviate the difficulties caused by the increasing costs of food and other essential items.

Zulum reiterated his administration’s dedication to prioritizing the well-being of the people, particularly those affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

“Today, we are commencing the distribution of food supplies to 100,000 households residing in Maiduguri Metropolitan and its surroundings. The entire nation is aware of the hardships faced by individuals due to food shortages.

“The initiative focuses on supporting the most vulnerable members of society by alleviating the burden of the high cost of living in the city.

“As long as I remain the governor of Borno State, the distribution of palliatives will continue. However, I want to emphasize that while we continue with the distribution, we will also invest in commercial and subsistence agriculture,” he said.

Governor Zulum also announced that the palliative distribution would be expanded from 100,000 to more than 200,000 families within seven local government areas in the southern part of the state before the conclusion of the Ramadan fast.

He encouraged the people of the state to actively participate in agriculture to enhance food production and assured them that the government would provide further palliatives, such as free transportation, agricultural resources, and financial support, to revitalize the state’s economy.
