The Bauchi State Commissioner for Education Dr. Jamila Muhammad Dahiru has directed that private schools henceforth operate five kilometers away from one another for effective service delivery.

Dahiru stated this at a meeting with private schools’ proprietors held at Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi, aimed at addressing the challenges and reviewing the success recorded to further advance education in the state.

The Commissioner, who expressed concern over the high number of unregistered private schools in the state, said the state has 1,102 registered schools.

She charged the proprietors to pay their dues when due and ensured they operated based on stipulated rules and regulations for establishing them.

Dahiru noted that the importance of private schools towards complementing the educational needs of pupils/students cannot be over-emphasized and called for collaboration with her ministry to achieve the set objectives.

In their separate contributions, the proprietors of Blue Bird Elementary School, Hajiya Binta Faruq, and her counterpart of Havard International School, Bauchi, Mr. Losa Augustine Abiodun, enumerated some of the challenges that hamper smooth operations including non-payment of school fees by parents and guardians and lack of synergy between them and the government in the area of the academic calendar.
