Shock and outrage have gripped the University of Calabar (UNICAL) community after three students were reportedly abducted from their hostel room on Thursday night.
The missing students – Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level medical student, Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level genetics student, and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student in the same department – were last seen in their shared accommodation at one of the school’s residential halls.
According to university sources, the abduction likely occurred sometime after 7:00 p.m. last Thursday.
University officials remain tight-lipped, refusing to comment on the specifics of the case.
However, in a brief statement on Sunday, Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Superintendent Irene Ugbo, said the police were working in collaboration with other agencies to rescue the students.
The abductions come amid a growing national concern over student safety. Several universities across Nigeria have reported similar incidents in recent years, raising questions about the effectiveness of campus security measures.
As the investigation unfolds, the university community grapples with fear and uncertainty, hoping for a positive resolution.
