Pelumi Nubi, a content creator of Nigerian–British descent, completed a 68-day solo road trip from London to Lagos on Sunday, 7th April.
Nicknamed “Wheel of Wonder,” her journey covered 17 countries and captured the world’s attention.
Nubi, driving a Peugeot 107 named “Lumi,” shared her adventure on social media, showcasing the African continent as a viable tourist destination.
She also documented her occasional car trouble experiences on social media, which garnered her a dedicated following.
Nubi’s arrival at the Nigeria–Benin border on Sunday was met with a hero’s welcome. Fans and Lagos State government officials, including the Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka welcomed her.
Speaking to Channels Television, she said, “I feel so good to be home. Honestly, the homecoming has been so amazing, and really welcoming.”
“Honestly, Nigeria is definitely home to me, so it’s more than amazing. I expected the homecoming, but this has been incredible, so thank you so much, I am really grateful, and I can’t wait for the celebration that is waiting for me at the University of Lagos.”
At the University of Lagos, she addressed a crowd of admirers, expressing her excitement about completing the journey and inspiring young women, particularly to dream big and conquer their fears.
Her goal was to inspire young women and dismantle negative stereotypes about Africa. Her success marks the end of a remarkable journey but hints at future adventures to come.
Nubi’s accomplishment is believed to make her the first Black woman to complete this solo drive.
