The Pella community in the Hong local government area of Adamawa State has celebrated achievers who hailed from Pella District and had made remarkable achievements in their various endeavours.

The event was organized under the auspices of the Pella District Unity Forum, the first of its kind since the district was created.

Those honoured are Prof. Emeritus Mohammed Balla, University of Maiduguri, Prof. Yakubu Nyada’iti, Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Hong, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, Adamawa State Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Prof, Benson Baha, Provost, Adamawa State College of Education Hong and Hon. Augustine James, Special Adviser to the Governor on Project Monitoring.

In his message to the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri enjoined the citizens of the state to peace prevail in their activities for development to thrive across the 21 local government areas in the state.

 

 

 

 

The Governor gave the charge during a reception organized by the Pella District Unity Forum in honour of some illustrious sons of the district who made remarkable achievements in their various fields of endeavors, noting that “without peace, there can be no development of any kind”.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Edgar Amos Sunday said honourees are special gems in any community and have curved a niches for themselves, describing them as stars, arsenals, and champions not only for Pella community, Adamawa state, but Nigeria in general-“we are all proud of you”.

Fintiri said the Government is giving priority to education due to its role in society: “We are tapping from the rich endowment of Pella District for the overall development of our state. The ceremony highlights the importance of education; the Pella District Unity Forum and Adamawa state government are on the same page indeed that informs the choice of one of the sons of Pella District as Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development”.

The Governor who commended the display of the rich culture and tradition of Kilba, challenged the honourees to uphold their culture, reiterating government support to sustain the cultural heritage of the state.

He congratulated the honourees and the organizers for their foresight and commitment in organizing the event.

In his speech, the Speaker of Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathliya Wesley commended the people of Pella District and noted that such a celebration will go a long way in promoting unity among members of various communities and leaves a legacy worthy of emulation by incoming generations.

He charged elders and leaders in the community to always preach the message of peace and unity to consolidate the coexistence of forefathers in Pella which resulted in the establishment of schools and clinics.

Wesley called for continued support to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Finitiri who has transformed the state in the last five years.

Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, Engineer Shehu Sani Samah, described the people of Pella as peace-loving and accommodating, maintaining that the people of the district will continue to work in unison for the development of the state.

The Guest Speaker, Doctor Musa Ahmed Midila, Deputy Dean Faculty of Education, Modibbo Adama University, Yola titled his speech ‘Pella District: Challenges and the way forward’ highlighted areas of challenges and the fast-trackway forward to include Poverty, Access to quality education, Health care, Insecurity and social inclusion of Pella District.

In his remark, the District Head of Pella Alhaji Saleh Mamman Daksiri said the event is part of the district’s effort to unite the people of the district to fast-track development.

Responding on behalf of the celebrants, the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Hong, Prof. Yakubu W. Nyada’iti explained that the honour will continue to strengthen the bond of unity among the people and stir up the spirit of hard work and dedication from other members of the community.

The Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to celebrants, horse, bows, and arrows to Governor Fintiri.
