The Senate Adhoc Committee Chairman on Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) of Nigerian Refineries, Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah, has led the Senate on an oversight visit to the Warri Refinery, Delta State. A few months ago, President Bola Tinubu announced his government’s plan to revive Nigeria’s refineries as part of efforts to make the country less dependent on imported petroleum products.
During the visit on Thursday by the senate committee, they commenced the oversight with a courtesy call to the Palace of His Royal Majesty, Ogaime Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri. This visit was then followed by the inspection of the various units of the refinery undergoing different levels of maintenance works.
Efifia Chu, the Managing Director of Warri Refinery, led the staff of the refinery and contractor of the maintenance works, to welcome the visiting senators. Also present are some management staff members of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), led by Dapo Segun, the Executive Vice-President Downstream, of the Corporation.
The oversight by the senators prompted a joint meeting of the senate committee, the contractor for the maintenance at the refinery, and the management of the NNPCL. Speaking after this meeting, the Chairman of the Senate Committee, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, commended the pace of work, while expressing optimism as regards the potential of the refinery in addressing the challenge of dependence on imported petroleum products. “I am confident that with proper monitoring, the TAM projects of the Nigerian refineries will be successfully completed, leading to a more efficient and self-sufficient petroleum industry in the country,” Senator Ifeanyi Ubah said.
Some members of the Senate Adhoc Committee who visited Warri Refinery include Sen. Tony Nwoye and Sen. Osita Izunaso, among others.
