Not less than 16 persons lost their lives in a fatal motor accident on Wednesday at about 5:20 p.m. at Ekwegbe, along Enugu/Opi/Nsukka Road in Enugu State; fourteen males (14) and two (2) females burnt beyond recognition.
In a bulletin signed by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu State Police Command calls on persons with useful information as regards tracing the victims’ families to come forth.
Preliminary investigation by the Police reveals that the 18-seater white-coloured Toyota Hummer bus with a Bauchi State commercial registration number DAS 215 XA and the inscription “Masha Allah” on high speed lost control ran into the fence of Maduka University and burst into flames.
While 16 passengers where confirmed dead, 2 were alive and taken to hospital for immediate medical attention by good spirited individuals.
The take-off point and final destination of the vehicle and passengers are still unknown but most likely, was heading towards Nsukka from the Enugu axis of the road.
Luggages, food items of deceased victims were recovered from the scene by the Igbo-Etiti Police Division.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu commiserates with the yet-to-be-traced family members, friends, and associates of the deceased.
The CP further calls on individuals that can help in identifying the victims or with information to trace the family members of the deceased to come forward.
