The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, DHQ, has announced significant progress in the fight against terrorism, claiming that troops neutralized over 715 terrorists and rescued 465 kidnapped victims in operations conducted throughout April.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, revealed these figures during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday. He elaborated that the operations involved a combination of ground and air offensives carried out across the country.
“The synchronised strikes between the ground and air forces during the period under review resulted in over 715 terrorists neutralised, 1,146 persons arrested and 465 kidnapped hostages rescued,” stated Major General Buba.
The briefing also highlighted the elimination of several high-profile terrorist commanders, including Ali Dawud, Bakura Fallujah, and Mallam Ari, through targeted airstrikes. These developments are seen as a potential blow to the leadership and organisation of terror groups operating within Nigeria.
“All the surviving terrorist commanders and leaders are walking corpses as we would get them, sooner than later,” Buba added.
The military operations resulted in the recovery of 937 assorted weapons and 23,034 assorted ammunition.
Despite these gains, the DHQ recognises that the fight against terrorism is not yet over. Buba reiterated the military’s commitment to maintaining pressure on criminal networks and prioritising the security of Nigerians.
