…Urges President to release Kanu, IPOB leader

The Archbishop, Province of the Niger and Bishop, Diocese of Awka, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim has described the economic policies of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration as one bereft of the necessary values for the economy.
Archbishop Ibezim who spoke in Awka yesterday while reading the Archbishop’s Charge during the 2nd Session of the 13th Synod of the Diocese called on Tinubu to overhaul his economic policies, noting that Nigerians are enduring immense suffering as the prices of essential commodities soar to higher levels.
He also called for the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), describing his continued detention as a “national embarrassment”.
He noted that the people of Eastern Nigeria have suffered a lot in the country, saying that for Nigeria to be peaceful, the Igbo must be given a chance in the national leadership of the country.
“The unbearable pain of poverty and hunger that Nigerians are forced to endure may result to unbearable situation that may unseat the peace of this nation.
Compounded by the weakening naira due to the forex exchange situation and increased pump price of fuel and electricity tariff, we pause to ponder what the leadership of country is doing to avert the looming danger or crises. As a result, Nigeria is rapidly transiting on the way to economic and political perdition. May God help our nation, Nigeria.
“The Synod calls on the President, Ahmed Tinubu as a matter of urgency to release Nnamdi Kanu for peace to reign. Justice delayed is justice denied.
Eastern Nigeria has suffered a lot and for Nigeria to be peaceful, the Igbo must be given a chance in national leadership of the country. The truth remains that injustice sets back a nation and once an ideology about injustice is imbibed into a people, no amount of force can quell it unless justice is done,” he said.
On the state of Anambra, the Archbishop commended the Prof Charles Soludo-led government on the level of development so far in the state.
He urged the governor not to relent in his resolve to deliver on his promises just as he called on the governor’s attention to some areas in the state grappling with the menace of cultism and touting, urging him to also look into abuse of power by some government agencies.
The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, in a remark noted that the church has enormous roles to play in the society today considering the various challenges confronting the country.
He called on the church leaders to intensify efforts in the ministry of children so as to catch them young into noble characters as they grow into maturity
