A stepmother who denied food to minors belonging to her husband has burnt their hands for eating food kept for their father.
Rachel Geoffrey, 23 years old, resident of Federal Housing estate, Girei local government area of Adamawa state was on 14/5/2024 intentionally inflicted severe physical injuries on Genesis Geoffrey 7 years old, and Ijadai Geoffrey 3 years old.
In a statement, Adamawa State Command Public Relations Officer SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said the culprit had been arrested on 15/5/2024 for cruelty against humanity.
The statement reads in part: “The victims faced several calculated acts of cruelty and Human rights violations from their stepmother after the separation of their Mother from their Father. “Most worrisome is the recent incident in which she cooked Rice and kept it for her Husband who happened to be the father of the victims and then went out, the hungry kids took and ate their father’s food.
“That angered her, she then tied their hands with handkerchiefs making them powerless, and set fire to their hands resulting in the severe injuries they sustained.
The statement said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, who expressed worries over the incident, advised parents to live up to expectations in providing necessaries to their wards.
He assured the diligent prosecution of the suspect.
