Nigerians have been urged to celebrate the country’s cultural diversity, highlighting it as a source of strength and unity.
Ms. Hannatu Musa Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy made the plea in her address commemorating the 2024 World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, observed annually on May 21st, is designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to raise awareness about the role of culture in sustainable socio-economic growth and development.
The Minister also urged Nigerians to view their diversity as strength and a unifying factor, rather than a source of conflict.
“Nigerians should take pride in their culture and recognize its potential to drive economic development, social and mental well-being, and national unity.
“The country’s cultural and ethnic plurality should be used to foster dialogue, understanding, and peaceful coexistence, rather than allowing differences to cause division.
Ms Musawa announced that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with its agencies and stakeholders to promote Nigeria’s creative economy and enhance the nation’s image.
