Nigeria’s Super Eagles have fallen eight places, from 30th to 38th, in the latest FIFA world ranking.
This dramatic fall comes after a string of lacklustre performances in their recent 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The Eagles drew 1-1 against South Africa and suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.
These results, coupled with over 180 international matches played since the last rankings update, have contributed to Nigeria’s slide down the rankings table.
The Super Eagles now have 1498.93 points, a significant decrease from their previous tally of 1520.27 points.
The drop also translates to Africa’s continental rankings, with Nigeria falling from third place to fifth, now positioned behind Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.
Meanwhile, Argentina retains its top spot in the global rankings, solidifying its dominance in international football. France, Belgium, Brazil, and England round out the top five.
The next FIFA ranking is scheduled to be released on 18 July 2024.
