The opposition lawmakers in the House of Representatives, popularly called G60 has carpeted the opposition governors and leaders especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors over silence in the ongoing crises in Rivers and Kano States.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the Spokesperson of Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers in the House of Representatives in a statement on Friday, said it’s surprising to that the opposition governors are yet to visit and show solidarity to their opposition members and counterparts in Rivers, Governor Similanayi Fubara and Kano State Gov. Abba Yusuf, respectively.

According to him since 2022, following his loss at the presidential primaries, the now minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has been igniting crisis in the party with no sanction against him yet, plus the endless plot to deny the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) their hard earned victory in Kano State by some politicians hibernating in Abuja.

He charged the PDP as the leading opposition party to take the lead and cleanse the house of political sabotage by ensuring the emergence of uncompromising leadership that have the capacity to galvanise the opposition family to have focus and direction.

Ugochinyere also faulted the assertion by some stakeholders that the FCT Minister shouldn’t be suspended owing to his long-standing contribution to the party over the years.

According to him, the Minister has already left the party following his activities before and during the elections, and his acceptance of the ministerial slot from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ugochinyere claimed that the former governor, even before his recent fallout with his successor, Governor Fubara, doesn’t only want to maintain the position of the PDP leader in Rivers but also the leader of the APC in the state, as he has shown through the appointment of his loyalists as members of the caretaker committee of the PDP.

He lamented that it’s a shame that some opposition governors especially from PDP are scared of going to Rivers and Kano to show Fubara and Yusuf solidarity because they don’t want Wike and other Pro APC leaders to scold them.

The lawmaker charged the governors to sit up, and take appropriate actions as leaders of the opposition, stressing that it’s the only way to restore the glory of the PDP and the opposition family.

He said: “The worst thing that can happen to the developing country with economic challenges is a compromised opposition leadership. One year after we don’t have a party and opposition leadership that can give us direction and charge us. We have a party leadership and Governors who don’t want to get involved in rebuilding the party or opposition after woeful outing caused mainly by sabotage.

“Now 60 percent of our party governors and party leadership are behaving like learners because they can’t stand to cut to size some hired ruling party agents who have a contract to destroy the party.

“I heard some are now awaiting for Certificate of Occupancy so they are scared of acting. Imagine the opposition party base is under attack in Kano and Rivers but opposition governors are drinking champagne with the oppressors and are not ragging with anger or assembling to show solidarity by visiting.

“They should learn from when Tinubu led just one party Action Congress (AC) to ignite a battle that rebuilt the opposition then into forming an alliance that crushed the PDP. It’s Time to wake up,” Ugochinyere added.
