Substandard, falsified, and banned products worth over N20 million have been seized by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in a major raid carried out across some markets in Sokoto state.
Similarly, four suspects were arrested after the screening of 17 shops during the raids.
The agency in its X platform said the operation which was carried out by the Investigation and Enforcement/Federal Task Force on Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods led to the confiscation of several cartons of Endocoton Super containing banned Paraquat.
The statement explained that ‘Paraquat’ is a highly toxic herbicide posing significant health risks and environmental hazards.
“The raid also seized 2,096 cartons of SF MOE Soap and 223 cartons of SF Oxxo Purest Soap. Several unregistered herbal preparations with pornographic images, posing a notable risk to public health, were also removed.
“The arrested suspects would be investigated, and the confiscated products processed according to regulations for substandard and falsified products,” the statement added.
The agency urged the public to report suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office to help combat the distribution of dangerous and illegal products, reaffirmed its ban on Paraquat agrochemicals, and vowed to enforce it rigorously.
