The Enugu State Government has sealed over three hundred million dollars partnership with the Management of African Medical City in a bid to make the state the hub of medical tourism in Nigeria and Africa at large.

To ensure that the Medical City becomes a reality, the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah said the state is committed to partnering with these investors by contributing 10 percent of the project cost and providing 100 acres of land for the facility; the investment is establishment of a $303 million state-of-the-art Medical City in the state.

“This monumental initiative is set to make Enugu the hub of medical tourism in Africa, significantly reducing the over $1 billion Nigerians spend on medical tourism annually due to lack of modern facilities,” Governor Mbah said.

Receiving in audience the Executive and Management of African Medical City, a group of US investors at the Government House Enugu, Governor Mbah reiterated that the project marks a significant step towards fulfilling our campaign promise to grow our economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion and to position Enugu as the premier destination for business, investment, tourism, leisure, and living.

“Indeed, it is a development that aligns perfectly with our strategy of a government-enabled, private sector-driven economy.”

Welcoming the executive and management of African Medical City made up of Nigerian medical doctors in the diaspora, Governor Mbah expressed profound appreciation for choosing Enugu State; the Chairman of African Medical City, Ethelbert Nwanegbo; Dr. Uchenna Ogbozor, President/CEO of African Medical City and Mr. Joseph Michael Budetti, the Financial Advisor.

In his presentation, the Chairman of the African Medical City, Dr. Ethelbert Nwanegbo, said the group was attracted to Enugu by the investment and ease of doing business pushed by the present administration in the state.

“What we are trying to do here is to establish a medical city. A medical city is not just a medical building, to be sure. So, when we think of Africa, we think of Nigeria and think of yesterday.”

Throwing more light at the investors, the President/CEO of African Medical City, Dr. Uchenna Ogbozor said, “African Medical City is a big organization and we have 21 members as it stands today. So, I want to commend our members, including those that are not here, for their financial commitment and capabilities.”

“We are looking at this investment to be an over $300 million investment. The government is giving us 100 hectares of land, representing 10 per cent of the investment,” Dr. Uchenna Ogbozor said.
