Over 330 women and children including a Chibok schoolgirl, Ihyi Abdul with her two children who were rescued from enclaves of the insurgents have been handed over to the Borno State government.
Theatre Commander of the North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Waidi Shuaibu who briefed Journalists at Maimalari Cantonment Maiduguri, shortly before the handing over said all the captives were rescued along Bama and Pulka axis of the Sambisa forest.
“Today we will be witnessing two events namely, the handover of the rescued Chibok girl and the handover of other women and children to the officials of the Borno State Government for further management.
“The Chibok girl who is number 67 on the list was rescued after three months of pregnancy in addition to her two children.
He said a total of 19 Chibok girls have been rescued as a result of direct military operations.
“The remaining Chibok girls will continue to be an issue of concern to the nation and in the Theatre, stressing that such concerns necessitated the conduct of several operations into enemy enclaves with the sole aim of facilitating their rescue.
“The theatre will continue to do its best to rescue the remaining Chibok girls in captivity in line with the strategic guidance from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and the Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Toaheed Lagbaja,” he said.
In his remarks, Acting General Officer Commanding GOC, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna said, Ihi Abdul was rescued on 23rd June 2024 by troops of the 22 Taskforce brigade.
“Ihi Abdul was on serial number 67 of the abducted Chibok school girls published by the federal government, and that, she was married out to Boko Haram Commander Abu Darda and after fleeing to Senegal, she was married out to 3 different husbands,” he said.
The GOC said Ihyi has undergone a necessary medical checkup and will be handed over to the Borno state government today for further attention.
