The latest Henley Passport Index has ranked Nigeria’s passport 92nd in the world in terms of visa-free travel, tying with Lebanon and Myanmar.
According to the report released on Tuesday, Nigerian citizens can travel to 45 countries without a visa, a far cry from the 195 countries that Singaporean passport holders can visit without a visa.
In Africa, Nigeria ranks sixth lowest in visa-free travel access, behind Seychelles, which leads the continent with 156 visa-free destinations.
The country’s ranking has fluctuated over the years, dropping to an all-time low of 103rd in 2021 before rising to 92nd in the latest report.
The report shows that Nigeria still has a long way to go in terms of travel freedom. It highlights the need for Nigeria to reform its visa policy to make it easier for citizens to travel abroad.
The Henley Passport Index, based on exclusive International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, compares 199 passports’ visa-free access to 227 destinations.
The index emphasizes the importance of visa-free travel access in today’s globalized world, with top-ranked countries enjoying greater mobility and economic opportunities.
