Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and convener Reset Lagos PDP has condemned the recent appeal by President Bola Tinubu asking Nigerians to be patient with him and look beyond the temporary pains and aim at the larger picture.
Pearse in a chat with our reporter stated that the President has demonstrated that he’s insensitive to the plight of Nigerians and that his appeal is just adding salt to injury
The PDP Chieftain said, “The #EndBadGovernance protesters who took to the streets in their thousands, and the millions who supported them from their homes are demanding substantial changes.
“To cut the cost of government, reduce the number of ministers and government officials, abolish the office of the First Lady, and return the jet and the yacht you bought. Slash the amount voted to refurbish the Vice President’s lodge from 21billiom to 3 billion.”
The member of PDP National Presidential Campaign Council 2023 added, “To achieve good governance, the President should press for a review of the 1999 constitution in order to restructure the Nigerian Federation. He should propose a reduction in the income of National Assembly members. Senators shouldn’t make no more than 5 million naira per month and Representatives 3 million. For Credible elections, we need electoral reform. Sack the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman who has bungled the last two elections.”
According to Pearse, the President should show Nigerians that he is serious about reform and to save the image of his administration, president Tinubu must begin to fight corruption in the oil industry in order to reduce the cost of petroleum products.
“He must withdraw his personal interest in Oando Oil Company and in NNPC. Make our refineries work. Diversify the economy from a dependence on crude oil to include Lithium, gold, uranium, bauxite and phosphate to name a few minerals and invest heavily in agriculture,” Pearse added.
