Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, on Wednesday ended their impressive run at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris after a quarterfinal loss to the United States.
The game ended with a final score of 74-88 in favour of Team USA.
The Nigerian team, who made history as Africa’s first side to advance beyond the group stage, started strongly but struggled to keep pace with the Americans as the game wore on.
According to the scoreline, D’Tigress lost the first three quarters 17-26, 16-26, and 15-24, respectively.
Despite a late resurgence, winning the final quarter 26-12, it was not enough to change the outcome of the game at the Berry Arena.
The team’s exit from the Olympics, marked by impressive wins over Australia and Canada, saw them break new ground for African basketball.
However, the formidable US team proved too strong, ultimately ending Nigeria’s Olympic dream.
In a post on X, the D’Tigress said they were “bowing out on a high.”
