The Sokoto State Police Command has imposed curfew on Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State between 6am and 6pm until further notice.
The curfew was imposed following a rampage by youths in Sabon Birni town over the killing of the District Head of Gatawa, Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa by bandits.

They set bonfires; they torched the local government Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a courtroom and also broke into the local government store and destroyed fertilizers.
ASP Ahmed Rufa’I, spokesman for the command, said the measure was taken to restore law and order in the area.
Son of the slain District Head who is Turakin Gobir, said that there was reinforcement of security operatives in the area.
“We have been hearing gunshots since morning. But the protest is still ongoing as at 8pm, which is an indication that the curfew is not yet effective,” he said.
