Gunmen stormed the Okrika Waterfront in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday and kidnapped Aribibia Fubara, Director of the Rivers State Board of Internal Revenue.
Eyewitnesses said the kidnappers, who came in a speedboat, fired gunshots into the air to scare people away before seizing Fubara and speeding away with him.
The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the kidnappers, with the Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, directing tactical units to ensure Fubara’s safe release.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko said, “The command is aware of the incident. A manhunt has been launched to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.”
As of the time of this report, the kidnappers have yet to contact Fubara’s family, according to sources close to them.
