In a weekend of footballing success, Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Falconets both recorded impressive wins.
The Super Eagles defeated Benin Republic 3-0 in their opening Group D match of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Ademola Lookman scored twice and Victor Osimhen added a third goal to ensure a convincing victory in Uyo.
This win marked a return to form for the Super Eagles, who had been struggling with three consecutive games without a win.
The Super Eagles now lead Group D, with their next match scheduled against Rwanda on 10 September.
In Colombia, Nigeria’s Falconets triumphed 4-0 over Venezuela in their final group-stage match of the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
Amina Bello, Chiamaka Okwuchukwu, and Flourish Sebastine scored in the first half, with Joy Igbokwe adding a fourth goal in stoppage time.
This dominant performance secured the Falconets a place in the round of 16, finishing second in their group behind Germany.
The Falconets will face the top team from Group E, either Japan or Austria, in their next match on 13 September.
