President Bola Tinubu has conferred prestigious national honours on several prominent political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas.
The announcement was made during his nationwide broadcast on Tuesday morning, coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary.
In his address, President Tinubu highlighted the significance of these awards in recognising the contributions of these leaders to the nation’s governance and judicial systems.
“The Senate President and the Chief Justice of the Federation have been conferred with the honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger, GCON,” he stated.
In addition to Akpabio and Kekere-Ekun, other notable recipients included Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who were honoured with the Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic, CFR. Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu received the honour of Commander of the Order of Niger, CON.
President Tinubu also informed the public that the federal government would soon unveil the full list of honorees for 2024, continuing the tradition of recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to the progress and development of Nigeria.
