Individuals’ Whatsapp Numbers including high-ranking personalities are being hacked daily in Nigeria with three ministers so far having fallen victim to the crime.
The hackers after succeeding in hacking will send messages to unsuspecting victims soliciting assistance under the pretext that they have challenges with their bank transactions.
This is one of the messages sent to somebody on Thursday as the Whatsapp Number of someone in his contact was hacked: “Salaam Alaikum Please can you help me do transfer to I’m having issues with my bank network, 200k, Bank Name: Adeniyi iyanu, Account Number: 8061540265, Bank Name: pal pay, Once my network gets better I will refund it back”
Among the latest victims is the minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu whose Whatsapp Number was hacked as confirmed by his spokesperson to the minister, Bolaji Tunji on Thursday night.
Tunji warned Nigerians to disregard any appeal for money or assistance or any financial support through the compromised phone number.
“HM of power number has been hacked on Whatsapp. Kindly disregard any appeal for money or assistance for financial support through the number 08022901928”, the statement reads.
Recall that six days ago, the WhatsApp mobile phone number of the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman was hacked.
The first victim was the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh who earlier had his WhatsApp mobile phone number hacked.
