In his keynote speech, Igwe Alfred Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, decried the declining economic fortunes of Nigeria and called for action to address the disturbing economic crisis in Nigeria. He also condemned the level of insecurity in the Southeast and Anambra State in particular, lamenting that “armed criminal activities have increased.” The Obi of Onitsha also pointed out that inadequate funding for local vigilantes is one of the challenges to the self-help approach relying on local vigilantes.

Like in other years, the 2024 Ofala of Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Obi of Onitsha, was a colourful display of the ancient culture and traditions of the people of Onitsha. As it was in the past years, people traveled from far and near to witness the Ofala festival of the Obi of Onitsha.
