During plenary on Tuesday, a private member bill for the protection of persons living with HIV, sponsored by Hon. Noble Igwe, House member representing Ogbaru I constituency, scaled first reading. A bill for a law for the protection of persons living with HIV and affected by aids 2024, targets social inclusion and equal opportunity for persons living with HIV and aids. The bill is due for second reading after which it will be moved to the committee stage, before its third reading and passage.
The House of Assembly also considered the report of the audited accounts of the 21 LGAs in Anambra State for the year ending 2023. Similarly, the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2025 to 2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework – MTEF, Economic and Fiscal Update, Fiscal Strategy Paper, and Budget Policy Statement, was considered by the Assembly. This report was subsequently adopted after it was presented by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation. In a motion by Hon. Noble Igwe, seconded by Hon. Jude Akpua, the House resolved and the report was unanimously adopted as a working document by the House of Assembly.
A petition against the dismissal of some revenue staff was considered. The petition titled “Unjustifiable Relieve of our Headship” was previously referred to the relevant House Committee. At plenary on Tuesday, Hon. Justice Azuka, House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North I constituency, and Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, itemized the committee’s recommendations as follows: reinstatement of all affected persons, and payment of arrears of salary from April when they were unjustly dismissed, among others. The motion for adoption of this report was moved by Hon. Ejike Okechukwu and seconded by Hon. Tony Muobike.
Meanwhile, Hon. Anayo Okpaleke in a motion, commended the governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for extending free education to government-owned secondary schools.
