The renaming of the Imo International Conference Centre (IICC) after Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu, the late Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General, by Governor Hope Uzodinma has been hailed by the Imo State House of Assembly.
The lawmakers made their feelings followed the adoption of a motion moved by the member representing Mbaitoli Constituency, Innocent Ikpamezie who expressed gratitude to the State Government for agreeing to the appeal earlier made by the house.
Hon. Ikpamezie while addressing the house, noted that the renaming of the IICC after the late leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a mark of respect to what Iwuanyanwu represents in the political space of the country.
He maintained that the only way to honour the late leader is by immortalizing him in order to show how dear he was to Ndigbo in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
“The State Government has done well in honouring the late Igbo leader who he is a great son of Ndigbo and elder statesman,’ Ikpamezie said.
Recall that the house, on September 10, 2024, had urged the Governor to immortalize the late leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo by renaming the IICC in his honour.
The Governor, then on November 1, during the burial of the late Igbo leader, announced that the yet to be completed IICC complex will be changed to Engr. Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu Conference Centre.
