Prof. Omenugha Takes over as Consortium Chair
The 9th International Interdisciplinary Conference of the International Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa was successfully hosted by Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, Nigeria, and was attended by all the Vice Chancellors of the Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa. The International Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa – IICA, is made up of the leadership of universities within and outside of Africa. The theme of the 9th international conference is; “global development and contemporary challenges of insecurity,” with Prof. Augustine Odili, the Vice Chancellor of Margaret Lawrence University, as the keynote speaker.
During the three-day conference which ended with a change of leadership of the group, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, was elected the Chair of the Consortium. Therefore, the leadership of the Consortium was formally handed over to Prof. Omenugha who succeeded Prof. Deogratuis Jaganyi, the Vice Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, Kenya, in East Africa.
While performing the handover, Prof. Jaganyi extolled Prof. Omenugha for her visionary leadership of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, and therefore expressed confidence in her ability to take the Consortium to a new level of excellence, driving both research and academic exercise to global stage. Prof. Jaganyi said this while emphasizing that Omenugha exemplifies the “light of the nation,” the motto of Anambra State.
In her acceptance speech, Prof. Kate Omenugha thanked her predecessor, Prof. Jaganyi, and committed to expanding the Consortium’s membership. She further pledged to strengthen teamwork and partnership in her efforts to enlarge the Consortium’s frontiers of excellence.
The Internal Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa members include Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Nigeria, Kyambogo University, Uganda, University of Eldoret, Kenya, Mount Kenya University, Kenya, University of Makeni, Sierra Leone, Vincent Pol University, Poland, and University of SS Cyril and Methodius, Slovakia. The Consortium’s next international conference will be held in Uganda, in the eastern part of Africa.
