…New Directors-General Take Office
President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar 2023 presidential campaign, as his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications.
The Special Adviser made the announcement on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, in a statement released on Thursday, titled “President Tinubu Appoints Three Directors-General And One Special Adviser On Public Communication.”
The statement noted that Bwala, “a lawyer and notable public affairs analyst,” would oversee the administration’s public communication efforts from the State House.
Bwala, who was previously affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, confirmed his departure from the party in July and indicated his intention to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“I am not a member of the PDP. Yes, I have left the PDP,” Bwala said during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. “I am very close to joining the APC.”
Bwala was one of Bola Tinubu’s fiercest critics before the last general election. He however switched allegiance in mid-2023 after Tinubu won the presidential election.
The Presidency also announced the appointments of three new directors-general: Mr Olawale Olopade for the National Sports Commission (NSC), Dr Abisoye Fagade for the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, and Dr Adebowale Adedokun for the Bureau of Public Procurement.
Olopade, a seasoned sports administrator and former commissioner for youth and sports in Ogun State, served as chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the 2024 National Sports Festival.
Fagade, the new Director-General of the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, is an expert in marketing communications and the founder and Managing Director of Sodium Brand Solutions.
Adedokun, who takes over the Bureau of Public Procurement, previously held the position of Director of Research/Training and Strategic Planning at the bureau.
“The President enjoins the newly appointed officers to discharge their duties with dedication, patriotism, and excellence,” Onanuga’s statement concluded.
