The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Labour, has commended Chief Akai Egwuonwu, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Stine Industries, for the implementation of the new minimum wage. This commendation was conveyed by Mrs. Oji-Ogbuehi Bernadine, the Anambra State Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour, during a courtesy call to Chief Akai’s office in Awka.
During the visit, Mrs. Bernadine and other senior Federal Ministry of Labour staff members noted that Chief Egwuonwu is the first business owner to implement the new minimum wage in Nigeria. The Anambra State Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour, revealed this.
Accordingly, the State Controller, who was elated over this development, extolled Stine Industries’ MD, while commending his commitment to the welfare of his workers. Consequently, she called on other players in the private sector to emulate this.
Reacting, Chief Akai Egwuonwu appreciated the visiting team for coming and maintained that as a businessman, and industrialist, the welfare of his workers is critical to his business objectives. He also observed that the prevailing economic situation can negatively affect workers’ productivity if not fairly addressed by employers. This he said, while maintaining that his compliance was borne out of personal conviction and commitment to his workers.
A letter of commendation from the Federal Ministry of Labour was also issued to Chief Akai Egwuonwu, in recognition and appreciation of his compliance with the new minimum wage.
