Troops of Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army have repelled a reprisal operation launched by armed assailants on Chachanji village and its environs in Takum Local government area of Taraba State.
The troops had earlier arrested 12 suspected bandits and the seizure of 14 motorcycles and a locally fabricated pistol during a coordinated operation on November 9.
The remaining members of the criminal group on November 13, launched an attempt to retaliate against Chachanji village, but troops of 6 Brigade acted swiftly based on intelligence report and effected a counter operation, engaging the bandits with superior volume of firepower.
During the encounter, one bandit was neutralized, and the troops successfully recovered several items, including one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines, 12 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and one Motorola handheld radio.
In another development, a suspected bandit sponsor identified as Buba Alitu AKA Buba Gayu and four others were arrested in Dakka village of Bali Local Government Area on October 31, following the confession of two of the suspects of being in possession of arms.
The troops conducted a search operation at the suspects’ hideout at Gambtari village of Bali Local Government Area and recovered one locally fabricated pistol.
The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, noted that the successful operations further underscores the relentless efforts and dedication of the Brigade  in combating banditry and ensuring that law and order are upheld in Taraba State and beyond.
General Uwa urged the public to continue to provide timely and credible information to facilitate swift military responses to maintain peace and protect lives and property, reiterated the commitment of the Brigade to ensuring the safety and security of all communities within its area of operation.
