Anambra businessman and entrepreneur Chief Akai Egwuonwu is set to declare his interest in the upcoming Anambra South senatorial by-election. Chief Akai, who had maintained near neutrality over the by-election until the funeral of his late friend Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah last Friday, is now set to join the race, which is gathering momentum from every possible standpoint.
By the end of the week, Chief Akai Egwuonwu, would formally join the Anambra South senatorial by-election with an expression of interest to contest the election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance – APGA.
So far, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has notified political parties of the need to produce participants in that by-election and other such elections across the country within a month. For now, the senate has yet to declare the Anambra South seat vacant. However, give or take, the election for the Anambra South senatorial seat might not exceed the first quarter of the year 2025.
The 2025 Anambra State Governorship election might also play an important role in shaping the intensity of the senatorial by-election in Anambra South. For now, Chief Akai Egwuonwu’s interest in the race would impact permutations, while subjecting the APGA ticket to an intense contest, all of which will shape the outcome of the general election.
