NewsNigeriaPoliticsPeter Obi Donate Computers To Yola Catholic Diocese

The former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi has donated 10 sets of computers and Printers to St Augustine College, Mayo Belwa.

Speaking during the event, Peter Obi said no investment in the education of children is a waste as “education is the only tool that can secure the future of the young generation”.

He promised to continue to do his best towards enhancing education because of its propensity to turn around the fortunes and nations, noting that all developed nations invested heavily in subsidizing education.

The politician who ascribed the Nigerian crisis to leadership, urged the people to be mindful of the leaders they elect to lead them, adding that a leader who has no capacity, empathy, and wisdom could only lead the country astray as witnessed in Nigeria over the decades.

“I was in Adamawa State today to attend to several issues. I was a guest speaker at AUN where I talked of leadership. I visited the Almajiri School where I saw the wonderful work they are doing and I have visited St Augustine secondary school where I supported the students with laptops,” he said.

Receiving the items, the Bishop of Yola Catholic diocese, Most Rev Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza, extolled the qualities of Peter Obi and noted that the computers will go a long way in enhancing learning in the school.

“The importance of that rare gesture could not be overemphasized considering the role of IT in knowledge acquisition and sharing.

“Peter Obi is here as he toured the country to help some institutions. He has helped so many Almajiri schools in the North West and even in the North East.

“St Augustine College is one of our diocesan secondary schools and so he decided to buy 10 sets of computers and printers for the school to facilitate the learning process.

“We are very grateful to him for the rare gesture. I can’t quantify the positive effect it is going to have on these children,”,” Mamza said.

In his remark, Fr. Moses Ma’agi Principal of St Augustine College, Mayo Belwa also thanked Peter Obi for the donation, saying that it will impact learning in the college tremendously.

He promised to ensure the optimal utilization of the computers for the benefit of all students and to enhance the learning environment.
