…Backs Nigeria’s G20 Bid

South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa wants to work with Nigeria to harness its lithium reserves to power the electric vehicle, EV, revolution.

Speaking at the Nigeria-South Africa Business Roundtable on Tuesday in Cape Town, Ramaphosa said Nigeria’s minerals could be a game-changer for green energy and EV battery production.

“There is also much opportunity for cooperation on pharmaceuticals. Our two countries are strategically positioned to benefit from the rapid growth of clean energy manufacturing industries,” he said.

Ramaphosa urged businesses and financial institutions to invest in infrastructure and manufacturing, noting the need for local processing of critical minerals.

“We must work together to ensure critical minerals are beneficiated at source,” he added.

The South African leader also pledged strong support for Nigeria’s bid to join the G20, describing the country as “a valued sister country.”

He made the announcement during the launch of South Africa’s G20 presidency, just before meeting with President Bola Tinubu for the 11th Bi-National Commission in Cape Town.

“We have a voice, we have a presence, and we will be the biggest growth story in years to come,” Ramaphosa said.

He called for more African countries to join the G20 to amplify the continent’s influence on global economic decisions.
