President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Mr Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi as the Acting Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), effective immediately.
The announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Ogunjimi’s appointment follows the pre-retirement leave of the incumbent AGF, Dr Oluwatoyin Sakirat Madein.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Presidency said the appointment ensures a smooth transition in the management of Nigeria’s treasury and strengthens ongoing treasury policy reforms under the current administration.
Mr Ogunjimi, a career civil servant and the most senior director in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), brings over three decades of experience in financial management across public and private sectors. His previous roles include Director of Funds at the OAGF and Director of Finance and Accounts at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The new acting AGF holds multiple professional certifications as a chartered accountant, certified fraud examiner, chartered stockbroker, and chartered security and investment specialist. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy and a Master’s in Finance and Accounting.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in Ogunjimi’s ability to manage the nation’s treasury effectively.
He said, “The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation is pivotal to our nation’s treasury management operations. Mr Ogunjimi’s wealth of experience and notable competence will ensure the continued effectiveness of this vital institution as we advance our economic reform agenda.”
The President also praised the outgoing AGF, Dr Madein, for her dedication and selfless service to Nigeria. She is set to retire on March 7, 2025, having reached the statutory retirement age.
