Dangote Petroleum Refinery has marked a major milestone by exporting petrol to Cameroon for the first time.
The collaboration with Neptune Oil, a leading Cameroonian energy company, is being hailed as a step forward for Africa’s “regional energy integration.”
Announcing the development on Wednesday, Dangote Refinery described it as a bold move to tackle rising energy demands while strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Cameroon.
“This milestone, resulting from a strategic collaboration between the two companies, underscores their commitment to strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and Cameroon while meeting the region’s growing energy demands,” the refinery’s statement read.
Aliko Dangote, CEO of Dangote Group, said the export reflects the company’s vision for an Africa that refines and trades its own resources.
“This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people,” he said.
Antoine Ndzengue, Director of Neptune Oil, called the partnership a “turning point” for Cameroon.
“By becoming the first importer of petroleum products from this world-class refinery, we are bolstering our country’s energy security and supporting local economic development,” he said.
“This initial supply, executed without international intermediaries, reflects our commitment to serving our markets independently and efficiently.”
Dangote Refinery noted that this first export is just the beginning of many more to come as the two firms plan to build a reliable supply chain to stabilise fuel prices and boost regional opportunities.
“Both companies are exploring new initiatives to establish a reliable supply chain that will help stabilise fuel prices and create new economic opportunities across the region,” the statement added.
