NewsNigeriaPolitics$100M Investment Guarantees Water in Every Home Says Enugu Governor

The Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah has assured Enugu State residents of affordable portable water supply at all nooks and cranny of the state.

Governor Mbah stated this at the Town Hall meeting organized by the state government on Saturday at the Old Government Lodge Enugu; Theme, “Governance Issues: The Journey So Far.”

Responding to questions raised on the provision of water at an affordable cost given the $100 million investment agreement between the state and Australian investors in the sector, Mbah assures that the investment will not cause a hike in water rate but tackle the challenges of reticulation and achieve the desired goal of portable water in every home.

“On production, we have been able to achieve 150 percent of our daily production needs. What we are now dealing with is the last mile; making sure that we get water to the last mile.”

“These investors are going to invest a hundred million dollars to ensure that they replace all the pipes leading to the last mile. So, 1.5million households have been targeted for a start.”

“In January, work will start in earnest; they will ensure that it is metered as well as complete the tertiary pipelines.”

“For those who may be worried about what the cost will translate to with the coming in of these investors, you should not worry. We know that water is a social service, not a money-making venture. So even as the investors make returns on their investment, we have built-in safety nets to ensure our people are not exploited.”

“For those yet to get public water, you can be sure that when we connect all these pipes and meters to your homes, what you may be paying will be barely 20% of what you are currently spending to source for water,” Dr. Mbah said.

Meanwhile, Governor Mbah after listening to the concerns raised by the Enugu State JONAPWD Chairman, Comrade Onyebuchi Mba on the 2023 Enugu State Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Law has promised to establish the Enugu State Disability Commission before the end of the first quarter of the year 2025.
