The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has disclosed its 2024 achievements, with over 30,000 arrests and 1,581 rescued kidnapping victims among its highlights.

This was announced by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday during the Force’s end-of-year conference at the Goodluck Ebele Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

“In the year under review, the Nigeria Police Force achieved major successes in tackling crime, leading to the arrest of 30,313 suspects for a range of serious offences, including kidnapping, cultism, murder, rape, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms,” Egbetokun said.

He also noted the recovery of 1,984 assorted firearms, 23,250 rounds of ammunition, and 1,438 stolen vehicles.

The IGP highlighted key operations, including the rescue of one Nigerian and three Indian nationals in Ogun State on June 30, 2024, despite ambushes during the operation.

“The victims were safely rescued, and two kidnappers were neutralised in a subsequent raid,” he added.

On cybercrime, Egbetokun revealed that detectives uncovered a multi-bank scam, recovering N3.9 billion and arresting 130 suspects, including 113 foreign nationals.

Addressing welfare concerns, the IGP said, “The launch of the Nigeria Police Insurance Company aims to improve our officers’ insurance and welfare packages. Over N12 billion in insurance payouts have been distributed to 4,223 beneficiaries of the NPF Group Life Insurance Scheme.”

Egbetokun assured Nigerians of heightened security during the festive season, emphasising the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property while enhancing its partnership with the public.
