The President of the African School of Governance in Kigali, Rwanda, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, and his wife, Barr Mrs. Onyinye Moghalu, have celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. This celebration of the landmark 30th wedding anniversary was held in Enugu, and attended by close friends and family of the Moghalus. Married 30 years ago as young professionals, Prof. Kingsley was working at the United Nations as a diplomat, while Barr Onyinye was working in a bank. Three decades later, the marriage has gone through thick and thin with blessings; adorned by four lovely children, who, themselves, are now young professionals in their chosen careers and present at the event.

Speaking at the beautiful event to mark the milestone, Ikeazor, SAN, former classmate of Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, said that Moghalu has remained only a better version of who he was back in school days. He also reckoned that Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has become a very distinguished alumnus of the University of Nigeria and one of the most outstanding for that matter. This testimony was collaborated by others who spoke at the event, which was chaired by Engr. Chris Okoye, who attended the celebration with his lovely wife, Prof. Ifeoma Okoye.

Narrating how they met through a mutual friend, Barr. Mrs. Onyinye Moghalu said that her husband, Prof. Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu is her man on fire, even after 30 years. According to her, they both met while he was a diplomat and she was a banker. What started as a conversation over the phone while she was in her office at the time, led to a regular phone conversation and a marriage proposal in just three months. According to Barr Mrs. Onyinye Moghalu, one thing that attracted her to her husband was his direct approach. “One of the things that attracted me to him was his direct approach,” she said. Describing his personality and character, Mrs. Moghalu said that Prof. Moghalu is “laser-focused”. “He is my man on fire. He is focused and when he wants something, he goes for it.” Reflecting on the journey over the years, Mrs. Moghalu recounted that theirs, like all relationships, is not devoid of issues. Yet, “the fundamentals were right. I am safe in his arms. There is no doubt in my mind that my husband loves me. I am honoured and blessed to have you as my husband,” Mrs. Moghalu said to Prof. Moghalu.

For Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, “Never was a man so grateful. We thank God for his mercies and many blessings,” he declared. Recounting his blessings, Prof. Moghalu said that the 30th anniversary was only one out of the three things for which they are thanking God and celebrating. The first, he said, is the restoration of his wife’s health from a stage three cancer twice. The second, he said, was the anniversary and finally, his recent appointment against stiff competition, as the inaugural President of the African School of Governance. Remembering with gratitude how he was immorally schemed out of the last political process, he regarded it as an act of God that turned out for his good. “Sometimes in life when we think we have hit a disappointment, it is actually a reappointment,” Moghalu said.

Full of gratitude, Prof. Moghalu appreciated his wife, Barr. Onyinye Moghalu, for standing by him all these years with an unwavering faith. He appreciated his mother, Lady Moghalu who was filled with excitement as she danced in celebration all through the warm evening. He also thanked their three sons and one daughter for all they mean to their family. Moghalu equally took some time to thank Lamido Sanusi Lamido, and Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, both of whom were represented at the event, as well as all those who have added value to their journey over the years, including family and close friends who were at the event. “I will ever be grateful to Lamido Sanusi Lamido, as he then was. Sanusi and I have many things in common. He has been a great brother and a friend. Then, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari is one man I appreciate deeply,” Prof. Moghalu reiterated. Speaking briefly about his foray into politics, he declared that he had left Nigerian politics. “I have left Nigerian politics. If you go into a place where they do not value your values, withdraw and go to places where you are valued. Don’t waste your time”, he said.
Commenting on why the celebration was not held in Abuja, Lagos, Washington, or Kigali, Moghalu said Enugu is a reminder of how the journey of life started as an undergraduate at the Faculty of Law of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.
Chief Ben Etiaba, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank PLC, Dr. Robert Anwatu of Roban Stores, Rtd Cornel Onwujiuba, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, Sam Ben Nwosu, were some of the guests, among many other close friends and family of Prof. Kingsley and Barr. Onyinye Moghalu all of whom were treated to a memorable evening of celebration and gratitude spiced up by Ref music and Ugochi, with their live performances.
