The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced the introduction of resit examinations for candidates seeking to retake their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) papers.
According to WAEC, the resit option will allow candidates to rewrite specific subjects as early as January and February 2025, providing an opportunity for students to improve their results within a shorter time frame.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show in Ghana on Sunday, the Head of Public Affairs for WAEC, Mr John Kapi, disclosed details of the development.
“Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés,” he said.
Kapi further revealed the schedule for the examinations. “The exams will take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025,” he stated.
He also clarified the eligibility criteria for the new resit option, noting that students whose results have been cancelled are allowed to register, provided they have not been banned for malpractice.
This initiative is expected to ease the burden on candidates who would otherwise have to wait for the next standard WASSCE cycle, giving them a chance to address deficiencies in their academic performance.
