The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State House of Assembly candidate in the 2023 general elections, Sulaimon Abolaji Thompson and his supporters have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The former candidate, who has in a press statement on Tuesday stated reasons he has taken the decision to join the ruling party, also expressed gratitude to his former party. Sulaimon noted that he has officially resigned his membership of the PDP, also stated that some of his supporters have decided to decamp with him to his new party.
The statement reads, “I’m obliged to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party.
“The reasons to quit are predicated on the incessant intra-part tussles, intractable legal actions, unending leadership crises, open and utter disregard to constituted authorities among other misdemeanors, are compelling factors.
“This decision is not easy, it comes after much reflection and consideration of my political journey and personal alignment with my heritage and core political principles.
“First and foremost, I would like to deeply express my heartfelt gratitude for the opportunities, and shared vision that I have experienced during my time with the PDP.
“Your tremendous leadership and the collective efforts of the members have been valuable to me, and I remain proud of the achievements we have made together.”
Speaking further, he said, “However, after a period of retrospection and intensive political consultations, I came to the conclusion that it’s time for me to return to my political roots by joining the progressives, the party that aligns with my heritage and my family core ideologies.
“This decision is guided by the following key factors; Alignment with Foundational Principles: The APC’s principles resonate more deeply with my personal values and political aspirations. It represents the vision and ideology I also believed in.
“Commitment to Development: The APC has shown unwavering commitment to policies and initiatives that support the development of my area, my people and the nation at large. I feel a stronger alignment with these strategies for achieving sustainable progress.
“Cultural and Historical Ties: My family and political heritage have always been strongly linked to the progressives, and returning to the fold feels like a homecoming that aligns with my personal and ancestral legacy of our Grand Fathers and Fathers.
“A Renewed Vision for Change: At this critical time in our nation’s history, I’m inspired by the leadership of the APC, and I’m eager to contribute to the party’s agenda for meaningful and transformative change.”
