The leading APC Chairmanship aspirant for Esan South East Local Government, in the upcoming Edo State Local Government Election, Hon. Eugene Iyoha, has pledged to explore the agricultural potentials of his local government, to improve the fortunes of the local government.

Hon. Eugene Iyoha, a graduate of political science and a former supervisory councilor in Esan South East, is a known political figure in his local government.

In an exclusive interview with the West African Pilot News, Mr. Iyoha observed that his local government has so much unexplored agricultural potential. Using Illushi community as an example, Iyoha said that Illushi community has significant agricultural advantages that are largely untapped. “Let me not even bother with high-end political agenda as many aspirants do. Let me tell you about my community and then you will understand what I mean when I say that my focus will be on agriculture. I am from Ward 8, Illushi is in Ward 9; that is where we have River Niger and the boundary between Anambra and Edo State. Before, Illushi was a major rice farming community with massive agricultural activities going on including yam farming and production of all kinds of crops, vegetables, and many others. Today, there is a decline. Worst still, we have not fully explored our advantage to our profit, why?” Iyoha wondered rhetorically.

Committing to reviving the agricultural potentials of Illushi and the entire Esan South East local government, Hon. Eugene said that the development prospects of every society are tied to its natural advantage or what is called comparative advantage in economics. Therefore, “We must fully convert our comparative advantage to our benefit as a people. We will revive all our agricultural potential and make agriculture attractive and rewarding. By doing that, we will feed ourselves and then also export within our state, other parts of Nigeria, and even outside Nigeria. You can see that our solutions are within,” Eugene concluded.

The Local Government Election in Edo State will likely be held in April 2025.
