Military, Police, and local vigilantes repelled coordinated attacks by gunmen on the Garaha community in Hong Local Government Area, Adamawa State on Thursday.
Mr Dauda Istakis, village head of the community who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen attacked the village around 12:15 am, firing sporadically for nearly 40 minutes before the arrival of the securities.
Mr. Istakis commended the military, armed vigilantes, and police for their bravery and proactive which saved the entire community.
He lamented that the community was severally attacked by Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers, and ISWAP operatives, however, he thanked the state and federal governments for prioritizing security.
In a related development, Troops from Sector 2 of Operation Hadin Kai have thwarted an attempted attack by Boko Haram terrorists on Geidam town in Yobe State, on Wednesday around 1 am.
A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said the terrorists met resistance from the military while attempting to enter the town.
“It took both sides-troops and terrorists-three hours of intense gunfire before the terrorists retreated. Fortunately, there were no casualties or property damage on either side,” the source said.
A reliable military source from the Geidam battalion said an unconfirmed number of terrorists launched the attack but were engaged by resilient troops from the 159 Battalion during a night patrol.
The attackers were forced to flee without achieving their mission.
