The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kano State chapter has confirmed receiving directives from the national body to stage a peaceful protest on February 4, 2025.

Kano NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, reaffirmed their commitment to following the national leadership’s directives at all times but emphasized the need for caution.

“We received this directive this evening, and we will convene a meeting of the union leaders in Kano on 2nd February 2025, to make a decision.

“We always remain loyal to the national body, but at the same time, we consider the overall interest of the public. We do not want anything that could lead to unrest among the people,” he said.

Recall that NLC President Joe Ajaero in a statement issued on Wednesday that the NLC plans a nationwide protest to hold on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

The decision was made during the ongoing National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting of the NLC, aimed at sending a strong message to the government that workers will not tolerate policies that exacerbate economic hardship.

Ajaero strongly criticized the increase in telecommunication tariffs approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), describing it as an attack on workers’ welfare.

The NLC President emphasized that the tariff hike comes at a time when Nigerians are already grappling with severe economic difficulties.
