Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has denied claims that some local government workers are being owed salaries.

The Governor debunked the claim in a press statement on Monday signed by his chief press Secretary, Mr. Fred Itua, where the governor stressed that the rumours were not only false but also mischievous and intended to mislead the public.

Okpebholo called on the general public to ignore the claims, saying that he remains committed to workers’ welfare in the state.

He maintained that government workers in the state, including local government workers, are not owed any salary, as all payments, including that of January 2025, have been paid.

“As a result of this total commitment, the State Government has continued to pay the salaries of local government workers without fail, since assuming office,” he said.

“This remarkable feat is all the more impressive, considering the setbacks in allocation payments that the state has faced due to the ongoing legal crisis between the state and the embattled local government chairmen.”

Okpebholo noted that he would ensure that no Edo worker, irrespective of status, will be made to pass through undue hardship.
