CommunityNewsNigeriaFCCPC Summons MultiChoice Over DSTV, GOtv Price Hike

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned MultiChoice Nigeria over its planned subscription price increase, set to take effect on 1st March. The commission wants the pay-TV provider to justify the hike, citing concerns over repeated unilateral price adjustments.

FCCPC spokesperson, Ondaje Ijagwu, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that MultiChoice’s CEO has been ordered to appear for an investigative hearing at the commission’s headquarters on Thursday.

“The FCCPC is deeply concerned that Nigerian consumers continue to face frequent price increases amid accusations that MultiChoice applies different pricing strategies in other markets, heightening questions about fairness and market abuse,” Ijagwu stated.

If MultiChoice fails to provide a satisfactory explanation, the FCCPC warns it may impose regulatory penalties or sanctions.

Pilot News earlier reported that the latest price adjustment will see DStv Compact rise from N15,700 to N19,000, while Compact Plus and Premium subscriptions will increase to N30,000 and N44,500, respectively. GOtv customers will also see price hikes.
